Men’s Health Week 2025 – Supporting Men’s Mental Health in the Workplace

Men's Health Week

This week marks Men’s Health Week in the UK — a national initiative dedicated to raising awareness of the unique health challenges faced by men. This year, the focus is clear and urgent: breaking the silence around men’s mental health.

Why This Matters

Statistically, men are less likely than women to seek help for mental health issues. They are more likely to suffer in silence, often due to stigma, societal expectations, or a lack of visible support. In the UK, suicide remains the single biggest killer of men under 50. This concerning reality highlights why open conversations and support structures at work are not just beneficial but essential.

Mental Health Is Health

Creating a safe, inclusive, and health-conscious workplace starts with recognising that mental health is every bit as important as physical health. Men, like all employees, need space to express vulnerability, seek support without judgment, and feel seen and heard in their experiences.

What you can do to support Mental Health in your workplace

As part of Men’s Health Week, we are committed to:

  • Raise Awareness: Share resources on men’s mental health, including real stories and expert advice.
  • Encourage Open Dialogue: Hosting sessions where male colleagues and allies can speak freely in a safe and supportive environment can help employees feel more comfortable and confident in raising concerns.
  • Provide Support: Consider offering access to Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP), mental health first aiders, and other confidential services.
  • Promote Balance: Remind everyone of the importance of work-life balance and encourage regular breaks, reasonable workloads, and time off when needed.
  • Check in with your male colleagues. Even a simple “How are you really doing?” can go a long way.
  • Challenge stigma by speaking openly about mental health and normalising the idea that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.
  • Lead by example: If you’re in a leadership or management role, your openness can pave the way for others to follow.

Breaking the stigma around men’s mental health starts with leadership, with listening, with compassion, and with a culture that prioritises people over performance. During this Men’s Health Week, make it clear that nobody has to suffer in silence.
