The Most Common Workplace Accidents in 2025

common workplace accidents

We explore the most common workplace accidents, some measures that can be taken to prevent them, and the importance of recording workplace incidents to prevent future accidents.

Towards the end of last year, the HSE published its annual statistics on workplace health and safety. One area that the report focuses on is workplace accidents. According to the Labour Force Survey, 680,000 working people sustained an injury at work in 2025. This was an increase of 76,000 workers compared to 2024. With injuries and work-related ill health costing an estimated £22.9 billion in 2023/2024, employers need to understand how to prevent accidents in the workplace.

Most common workplace accidents in 2025

The most common non-fatal workplace accidents in 2025 were:

Slips, trips, or falls on the same level (30%)

Many of these accidents are a result of wet floors, uneven surfaces, spills, clutter, or loose cables. Injuries result in sprains, fractures, and head injuries.

Good housekeeping can significantly reduce these types of accidents. Keep floors clean, dry and free of clutter. If floors are wet or uneven, clear signage should be displayed as a warning of the hazard. Regular inspection of work areas is useful to ensure that they are safe and free of clutter.

      Handling, lifting or carrying (17%)

Manual handling, lifting, and carrying can cause muscle strains and other musculoskeletal disorders.

Educate employees through training on how to handle, lift, and carry objects correctly and safely.

Struck by a moving object (10%)

This could include being struck by a falling object, getting caught in machinery, or coming into contact with tools. This can result in injuries such as cuts, lacerations, and crushing.

Ensure employees are wearing the correct PPE to prevent injury if they are struck by a moving object. As well as this, employees should have thorough training on the correct use of and safety protocols of tools and machinery.

      Recording workplace incidents

Recording workplace incidents, including near misses, is essential to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. It enables organisations to identify hazards, prevent future incidents, ensure legal compliance, and strengthen their overall safety culture.

Analysing past incidents helps identify potential hazards and risks, allowing organisations to take proactive steps to prevent accidents. This valuable information supports informed decision-making on safety protocols, process improvements, training initiatives, and resource allocation.

      How can oneSAFE help?

Our health and safety software includes an Incident Log that is the perfect solution to record workplace accidents and near misses, with the ability to report on details such as:

      • The person affected
      • The person reporting the incident
      • A description of the incident
      • Action taken following the incident
      • Whether it has been reported to the HSE
      • Images as supporting evidence

Once logged, the assigned H&S person in your company will be notified, allowing them to review and take appropriate action, making your business a safer place to work.
